There is a big chance of rain this afternoon but it doesn’t come until late so please water as normal.
Work on your regular stuff as normal. I’m working on some back end stuff currently.
Something that I would like to touch base on today - when I hired everyone, I should have set an expectation. June is when hours will start to wind down. This means that hours will start to drop as we work through the last of the planting season. Deliveries will not stop, but we will have less of them and less product to manage, which means that I will not need as many people. I will have to start working on a small round of lay offs. Part of the issue is the late start of the season, which has caused an excess of used hours in the beginning of the season. To avoid a miserable mess in the end of the garden center, I need to make sure that I am budgeting my hours.
What I would most appreciate from everyone is what you need to be happy in your position. How many hours do you need weekly to keep you in this position for the next two to three months? I would like to accommodate as many people as possible, but I also need to do what is best for the company. If we can have this conversation candidly, I may be able to find out the lay offs that benefit the group the most - while hopefully keeping an open line of communication and avoiding anyone harboring some resentment.
I have really enjoyed the crew I have this year. Each and every one of you bring something to the table. Please know that personally, this is the hardest part of my job.
