Delivery day checklist

Check for needed sale signage - I should have mentioned it in the blog.

Check for needed toss
-Brown and crispy can be pruned. This is typically underwatering. Yellowing is overwatering. We can prune as long as we don't take away from the overall value. If you aren't sure, send me a picture and ask for my opinion.

Check for watering
-don't rely on the rain. Use your weight checks on every item. A lot of toss is from people not checking everything. It's easy for someone to miss the corners, product that got moved under a shelf slightly, etc. Avoid overhead watering as much as possible and bring product down to your level to water hanging baskets. Go slow and try not to overwater one section and underwater another section. This causes more issues. Slow and steady. It is not a race. BE PRETENTIOUS ABOUT YOUR WATERING.

Plan out your day - move racks around based on where you think you'll want that product.
Proven Winners, Garden Exclusive, Wave Petunias, these have planogrammed spaces they should be on.
Put pretty full sun product on outside end caps.
Rearrange product all the time - this promotes more sells when things move into different areas.
More expensive pretty product in the front, meh/filler/low value product towards the back

Check for displays away from your garden center. - ie displays by the main entry doors home/grocery. Prune, water, reorganize

Put product out -
Tallest in back, smallest in front. Organized by color blocking, vertical striping. Check your tags on every product to make sure that it gets into the right sun or shade levels. Think about how the sun falls over your garden center to help with this. Not every store has as much shade product vs sun product. Find the shady parts to be able to bring shade product out of the greenhouse. This is a tetris game. Sometimes you may have to move a thing, to move a thing, to get that product onto a table.

Merchandise on racks if needed -
bring product down from top and top shelves. It is not easy for the average shopper to pull from these. It also gets baked quickly from the sun and is hard to keep watered.

Clean up your mess - did you get a bunch of leaves on the ground? Or dirt? We should be trying to stay on top of our messes whenever possible.

Display needs - prune, dead head, straighten product to precise placement as much as possible

Check with me / lead merchandiser / meijer garden manager. - Does anything else need done? Can we do additional watering? Does your store look its best? Think objectively - what would you think if you were a customer walking in?
